I can’t imagine how frustrating, at times, it had to have been for the apostles to not only understand Jesus, but act on what he said. As crowds began to follow him, his “earthly” family decided to visit him, but couldn’t reach him due to the masses gathered. So the disciples approached Jesus to notify him during his teaching, and Jesus dismissed them indicating that everyone present is a mother and a brother, if they obey God.
What do you do with that? (blink, blink)
“uh…understood, teacher, but really, your ‘birth’ mom is here.” as you point in their direction and look over to the family and shrug your shoulders, and call out to them….
“Sorry. Jesus is being very Jesus right now…you know how it is.” and they all nod and then make eating motions with their hands…
…and then back to Jesus, “Oh…your mom just wants to know if they are expecting you for supper. Give her a thumbs up or down, that would be great.”
19 Then His mother and brothers came to Him, and could not approach Him because of the crowd. 20 And it was told Him by some, who said, “Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see You.” 21 But He answered and said to them, “My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.” – Luke 8:19-21 (NKJV)
