Exorcism for masses

AP NEWS / Bing public domain

As I’m sure you’ve seen on the news, just the end of 2020, Portland, Oregon was a place of protest and civil unrest for several months and much damage to the area had been done to businesses, etc. Honestly, I’ve been relieved to live 3 hours away and with COVID, our kids’ soccer tournaments to that area were cancelled so we haven’t had to be physically near it, where some peaceful protests erupted into violence and riots.

Interestingly enough, I was recently reading about how Jesus first cast out a demon. And I looked up demon possession today to see how prevalent it is…and though I’m not Catholic, I was surprised of an AP news article I came across from Oct. 2020, about Priests in Portland, Oregon, and San Francisco, California performed outdoor exorcisms to drive out lingering evil spirits after protests. I had NO IDEA this had happened.

So much news focused on protests, encounters of protesters with police, damage to buildings, people disappearing for questioning, etc. The same negative news continually on repeat for days and days…but not once did I see any mention of this. It would have been a nice break, and maybe given us some hope for peaceful congregating of masses.

33 Now in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon. And he cried out with a loud voice, 34 saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are – the Holy One of God!” 35 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him in their midst, it came out of him and did not hurt him.

Luke 4:33-35 (NKJV)

  1. Yeah. I’m not sure how much power they have for this now, but we can drive away demons on our on thru Jesus name – by resisting evil and temptations by stating “get the from behind me Satan”! I read that recently- it’s somewhere toward the last of the Bible- either Hebrews James or beyond. Take care. I followed your blog! 😉

    • Well, I just read in Luke 4:8, after Jesus is baptized and goes into the wilderness to be tested 40 days and nights, the 2nd temptation (I believe) devil offering him the world if he just worships him…and I believe that is when Jesus says, “Get behind me, Satan!” –

I am not Catholic, but I think someone truly possessed (like in the Exorcist movie), that level – would need the assistance of a trained Priest for that. I just found it interesting that is was an exorcism for the masses. I had never seen that. And apparently, it was said to be “new” very modern for a traditional faith.

      • Yeah I don’t much about exorcism outside of the Bible context. That is interesting. We know these principalities exist. People think we are nuts when you mention it. Yes interesting and the masses need it! lol 😂
